Something very cool and powerful is about to happen in Columbus. Tomorrow morning at 11:00, The Columbus Foundation will launch The Big Give, a 24-hour online giving event benefiting 600 local nonprofit organizations. It’s the first initiative of its kind. More than 1,800 individuals, families, and businesses have funds with the Foundation. Those existing donors have provided a $1 million match for The Big Give, so donations that are received between tomorrow and Friday will be given a pro-rated match. Anyone can give with a minimum credit card gift of $20.
Columbus Foundation associates have spent almost a year preparing for The Big Give. “The launch of this new system comes at a time when nonprofits need an economic boost,” said Lisa Schweitzer Courtice, Ph.D., the Foundation’s Executive Vice President of Community Research and Grants Management. “This 24-hour period of giving is intended to inspire the community to step up and support nonprofits in an unprecedented and historic way.”
The Columbus Foundation is the country’s ninth largest community foundation and manages more than $1 billion in assets. Results of The Big Give will be announced on Friday afternoon. This just in (November 11): $8,704,303.13 was raised.
